Math Camp: Strategies and Games

Come join a small group to play games in order to learn and review “high-leverage” math concepts that students need continued practice with over the summer.  Outside of a classroom setting we are able to work at your student’s pace, so they are challenged without feeling overwhelmed or anxious.  In addition to practicing strategies for the math concepts, students are also encouraged to practice communicating what they know and ask specific questions along the way.  If your mathematician would like to feel more confident in their skills and understanding, this camp is for you.

Why math camp?

Camp activities

During our camp sessions, I'll provide some direct instruction, but most of the time will be spent on games and group activities that directly target the concepts. Learners are also (highly) encouraged to communicate how they know what they know.

Concepts for class and life

Specific concepts practiced at camp will depend on your student’s age/areas for growth, and typically includes concepts such as: strategies for adding and subtraction, multiplication and division, efficiency and practice with factors and multiples, conceptual understanding and practice with fractions, and/or problem solving (strategies, organization, and practice).

Why me?

I am an experienced teacher with experience teaching in the classroom, small group, and one-on-one, and I believe learners should practice math over the summer, just like they practice reading.  For more information on my pedagogy or experience, please explore this website or contact me.

Logistics

The camp runs for 45-minute sessions daily for 1 week (Monday-Friday).

The fee for camp is $250 per student (3 students max in the group).  Camp groups are determined by what your student needs to practice, so if your child would like to work in a group with a buddy, let’s talk to see if it’s a good academic fit.

Camp runs from either 9:00-9:45 or 4:30-5:15 during the following weeks:

July 1-5

July 8-12: (10:00-10:45)*

July 22-26

July 29- August 2
